ITANAGAR, Jan 17: Reiterating its demand for maintaining uniformity in the electricity disconnection, the Apatani Students’ Union (ASU) has called for a 12 hours Ziro/Hapoli bandh on January 22 next.
Earlier on January 9, it had alleged Ziro Power Division of indulging in pick and choose policy while carrying out electricity disconnection in Ziro/Hapoli area.
In its intimation letter to the Lower Subansiri DC, it warned of holding the Ziro Power Division responsible for any inconvenience caused during the bandh.

When the doctors try to get into the drugs business and the drug retailer starts prescribing medicines, the things get out of line and the health care system falls or collapse.”
Association also requested the well wishers and the family of the deceased to have patience until the investigation into the case is complete and law takes its course of action.
Newspaper hawker assaulted, NMWC writes to DC

ITANAGAR, Jan 17: Suspecting foul play in the death of one Bengia Yame at Arunachal State Hospital, Naharlagun, on January 8 last, The All Sarli Youth Welfare Association (ASYWA) has demanded arrest of the concerned doctor and nurse holding them responsible for her death.
While referring to the FIR lodged by the family of late Yame at Naharlagun police station in this connection on January 8, it questioned why the concern doctor and the nurse have not been arrested and terminated so far? Why is the police paralyzed inspite of full evidence and eye witness?
The association demanded termination of both concerned doctor and nurse from their service immediately.

In a release, it said, the scarce situation is creating lot of problem for the people, mostly the students as their examination is beginning from next month. The problem which has been persistent for the last few months now has adversely affected the residents in Itanagar, it said.
Clarification sought
ITANAGAR, Jan 17: The primary members of all Nyishi students’ community in a meeting held at Naharlagun on January 16 unanimously decided to sought clarification from Central executive members of ANSU regarding decision made on election modalities, said primary member of Nyishi Students community Lingdum Taha, who presided over the meeting.
Claiming that election modalities are made in total violation of basic structure of ANSU constitution, Taha in a release today sought clarification on, what he said, the assigning responsibility of conducting election to third party, which, according to Taha, is unconstitutional.
He further said that the students body, being a pressure group “inducting of Govt. employee as Chief Election Commissioner is more or less a ridiculous act of present ANSU executive members.” The meeting further questioned why the student union is trying to conduct election in district wise with violation of constitution. It demanded reconsideration of the same decision.

Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Lt. Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma has expressed shock and mourned the sudden demise of former Speaker of Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Padi Yubee.
In his condolence message, Governor said that late Yubee was a distinguished social activist, who made immense contribution towards the State in various capacities during his long and distinguished political career.

Expressing shock and grief over the demise of former Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly and Minister Padi Yubee, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki in a message from New Delhi said that the news has brought a pale of gloom for people of Arunachal Pradesh as the state has lost a pioneer of its early and formative days in late Yubee.
“Late Yubee is one of the first generation politicians and leaders of the state, who along with others of his time had given direction to the development and evolution of Arunachal Pradesh as a progressive state. His contributions cannot be surpassed and will be looked up as inspirations for all days to come,” he said.
The Chief Minister, while highlighting the illustrious career of late Yubee, added that the late leader was instrumental not only in development of the Apatani Plateau and its people but the entire state as a Member of the first Pradesh Council as well as a Cabinet Minister in the later years.
“On the party front too, late Yubee was an active and dedicated member of the Congress Party and immensely contributed in strengthening it from the grass root level. While the state has lost a veteran leader, the Party has lost one of its ablest members,” the Chief Minister said.
On assertion and sharing of the sad information by Chief Minister Nabam Tuki with the top party leaders at the sidelines of the AICC meeting at New Delhi, the AICC members including Dr Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and all Congress Chief Ministers of the country in a separate session condoled the death of late Padi Yubee. All members present during the meeting also observed one minute’s silence in respect of the departed Congressman.

ZIRO, Jan 17: After successful performance of a Street show on HIV/AIDS awareness programme, the Neeti Society Ziro (NSZ) came out once again with a team of artist to present a show but this time it was on Disaster Management. The team joined a phen procession of Murung festival and covered about 20 km on foot on January 16 last presenting tips on disaster management.
Organized by the NSZ in collaboration with district administration Ziro, the Street Show on Disaster Management attracted thousands of people of the Valley. The artists dressed as fire fighters and some put on life saving jackets as are used during flood came out to the street with the phen. They continued to demonstrate on each part through action as well as with dances which impressed onlookers.
Taking the opportunity of Phen procession of Puru Buda murung which was the second last Phen for this year, a team of 25 artists under the direction and guidance of NSZ’s secretary Yachang Tacho came out with number of models and slogans related to disaster management. The models were like candle, electric appliances, match box, cigarette, traditional fire place etc through which fire accident usually occurs.

While the term of the CMLMS has come to an end, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki on being appraised by Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry & Dairy Development Minister Setong Sena has reportedly expressed his happiness at the outcome of the school and desired that the project should continue for which the GoAP would be funding.
It may be recalled here that after visiting many CMLMSs in Sikkim in July 2012 as head of an official team including commissioner Hage Kojeen and NYP representatives, Sena had commented: “Seeing is believing.”
Sena had taken the initiative to submit the proposal to the state government and consented to provide fund from his MLA Local Area Development Fund for providing skill development to youth in the age group of 18 to 25, particularly the school dropouts in three chosen traders of the 12 offered by the National Youth Project (NYP), entrusted to run the school. Following the approval of the State Cabinet to start the pilot project, the CM had inaugurated it at Nampong on October 18, 2012.
Interestingly, Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling was instrumental in setting up 42 livelihood schools across the state where the trainees generally from low income group from far flung areas are given scholarship grant of upto Rs. 3000 per month. Justifying its demand, the JNCSu stated that JN College is neither an affected place/area of the LSHEP nor is it a general public place for gathering of huge people for such purpose like public hearing.
“The College is nowhere mentioned in the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) or the Social Impact Assessment (SIA) report or even the Environment Management Plan (EMP) of the Project. So, holding a Public Hearing in a non affected area/place may not be justified,” the memorandum said.

Meanwhile, the Abor Hills People's Forum (AHPF) has welcomed public hearing proposed to be conducted at JN College auditorium, East Siang, Katan CO headquarters of Upper Siang and general ground, Aalo, West Siang.
“Public Hearing” simply does not mean a mock drill on the part of the state government to start construction of the project. The people of Siang belt should use this opportunity to address their fears and doubts. If the people of Siang belt after knowing the pros and cons with regard to the project decide to scrap the project, then it can do so.
“Siang is the river of the Adis and it is we the Adis who will decide what has to be done with our river. And, it is not at all necessary that the JP Group is the one and only company which will undertake the project. We can undertake the project on our own or we can invite any competent company from India or abroad,” the release said.

Puja Jain, ADC while welcoming all hoped that the programme would help build up awareness to tackle disasters which causes loss to life and property. It is an attempt to general sensitization to create awareness by way of documentary and resource person, she added. Ironically, the genuine and much needed development works are also interrupted by speculative construction of structures near the roads and by claiming the adjoining land as theirs to avail higher compensations by the citizens. Such practice was shocking news and an experience that I have witnessed. If all the money is paid off in compensation then what will be left for development?
We must device an inclusive development policy where the government and citizens proactively come together to work for ecologically balanced development. For the sake of development, we cannot let our mother nature pay for it. Sustainable development will only come if we protect our natural resources.
We all need to give attention to the matter now, before we face similar disaster like Uttrakhand and alike.

Railway in AP “Boon or Bane”
Dear editor,
Through your esteemed daily, I want to show my concern regarding railway project
in Arunachal whose trial engine run was done on 14th January 2014 in Naharlagun-
As we all know, a coin has two faces likewise with good always comes the bad. Uncontrolled migration of outsiders into state due to railway project will be bad for the state. Our inner line permit system is very weak right now and there is no hope of improvement in spite of tones of assurances by the Government.
I fear there would be thousands of people from outside states who was issued inner line permit just for temporary visit but they have permanently settled and doing all kinds of jobs including in government sector.
We must lay down some criteria for issuing permits. For example if they are seeking permits to work inside Arunachal then there must be some time period and once that time gets over they must leave the state immediately. Outsiders must not get voting right in Arunachal because once they get it then they are going to influence our policy making. Some power greedy politicians might use them as their vote bank and to get this vote, they might use appeasement policy which is really going to affect local people of this state.
These are just a few problems of railway; there are many more hidden and visible problems. Railway is good but our government must strongly regulate and implement inner line system. There must be timely checking of inner line permits inside Arunachal. Nepalese, Chinese, and Tibetan etc have similar looks like Arunachalee, so proper address checking must be done.

Through the column of your esteemed newspaper I would like to draw the attention of Gojen Gadi, the MLA of 29th Basar assembly constituency regarding dismal condition of Basar town. In his election manifesto, the first three foremost promises that he made were proper electricity supply, good road and all round development which clearly has been neglected by him till now. By seeing the current situation of Basar town and facilities that are available it is shameful to say that town does not even qualified to be called a town. So, for the betterment of all the people of Basar I would respectfully like to request MLA Gojen Gadi to take some drastic measures regarding these problems as soon as possible.

I would like to request the concerned authority to please re-
The month of December was perhaps the black month in the history of NERIST when Rs 66 lakhs was plundered in clear day light in front of hundreds of people by the robbers. After that the common people especially students suffered badly when SBI shut down three of its ATM in Nirjuli.
We understand the process of government and the banks and we respect the law of the land but the need of the time is ATM service. Students and general public have to travel to Doimukh or Naharlagun or sometimes RGU or Banderdewa for withdrawing money. Even SBI Nirjuli branch witnesses’ huge crowd as people withdraws money using cheques in absence of SBI ATMs. Even in the semester registration students takes lots of pain due to unavailability of ATMs in campus.
Being the most immediate sufferer, I would like to request the concerned authority to please look into the matter and provide us with better solution as soon as possible.

the staffs unanimously decided to go for cease work starting with ‘Pay-
The repeated attacks on doctors and nurses during duty time have left many staffs frightened. In absence of proper security, these staffs are not able to concentrate in their duty. It is not for the first time that we are hearing such kind of report. Most of the government officer’s have complained about lack of security. The threats and intimidation to officers has become quite common these days. People often criticize stating that government officials don’t do their work properly. However, if they are not allowed to function freely, then how can we expect them to work sincerely? Public has big role to play in this regards. On the other hand state government should ensure full proof safety and security of their officers.
